Uploaded Pup-431JPqs0.iso which forum member Shinobar created. Initialization is set to Japanese keyboard, Japanese and Japan Standard Time(also available english). You can easily experience Puppy Linux 4.3.1 JP. "qs" means quickset Puppy.

Japanese edition has some differences from English editon. Plese see below alpha and beta's announces.

Highlights of Japanes Edition

1: Japanese locale is ja_JP.UTF-8. An English version is ja_JP.utf8.

2: Some reading rules of the main SFS file and addition SFS file are different from original 4.30.

Only the file name "pup-430.sfs" of the main SFS file is permitted in original version.
The customized SFS file is treated by adding the character string after "430" such as pup-430JPalpha.sfs in a Japanese version.
When two or more main SFS files exist in PC, and which SFS file might likely to be adopted, and in a Japanese version and an original version, it to be different.
For instance, when saved personal storage file "pupsave.2fs" in the subdirectory (e.g. /mnt/home/puppy ),
In a Japanese version, addition SFS file is read from either of/mnt/home or/mnt/home/puppy. However, only the one that exists in/mnt/home is effective in an original version.

3: In a Japanese version, there are applications not displayed in the menu.

superscan, alsamixer, burniso2cd, xcalc, Ycalc is executable only from "gexec" or the command prompt.
SQLight Manager : from "Tool" of the menubar of Seamonkey.

4: Additional software only of Japanese version

pupsaveconfig 1.2 : GUI of personal storage file setting at the first time shutdown.
Winfonts 3.2 : When Windows is installed, divert the Windows font and the virtual memory.
acpid-1.0.8-3 : Shutdown with power supply button. Suspend by closing the lid such as notebooks PC.
lha : Compression/decompression of compression format "lzh" widespread in Japan.
deb2tgz : Conversion of Debian system package.
rpm2tgz : Conversion of RedHat system package.

5: Improvement of drive recognition

When PC has two or more HDD and starts from USB thumb drive/HDD, there is a problem that a part of drive is not recognized to the first stage in the original version. However, the improvement is added in a Japanese version.

Installation using Grub4Dos

It became easy to install Puppy with boot loader Grub4Dos of a Japanese original version. Please depend on the following procedure without using a universal installer.

When it is possible to start from live CD, start from Grub4Dos.
Make the folder/directory named puppy420(or any name) in a top hierarchy of either of partition of the internal HDD(as for the filesystem, even either of ntfs/vfat/ext2/ext3 is acceptable) or USB thumb drives. For instance /mnt/sda1/pup430. C:\pup430 from Windows.
Copy all contents of live CD into the made folder. The file name might become PUP-430JP.SFS, ZP430305.SFS, etc(capital letter) when copy on Windows. In this case, correctly rewrite capital letters and small letters. e.g.: pup-430JP.sfs and zp430305.sfs. Also rewrite "VMLINUZ" and "INITRD.GZ" to "vmlinuz" and "initrd.gz". Other files are acceptable as it is.
Menu > system > Grub4Dos boot loader to execution and all "OK".
Please start from internal HDD. If failed, check by starting again with live CD.

Bug Report

Please report the bug and the trouble of a Japanese version to Puppy LInux Japanese forum. Many of scripts and application programs have been changed with the original english version besides the above-mentioned. Please confirm and go with original english edition when reporting to the Puppy Linux Discussion Forum.

Changing to different kernels

Changes from 4.30JPbeta to 4.30JPbeta1

The major difference is std(2.6.25.16) and retro(2.6.21.7) version also separate zp430xxx.sfs as well as the regular version(kernel-2.6.30.5). As a result, pup-430JPbeta1.sfs is shared in three different kernels. However, because the version of sfs is different between regular(2.6.30.5) and std(2.6.25.16)/retro(2.6.21.7), the regular version and std/retro give pup-430JPbeta1.sfs to pup-430JPbeta1-sfs3.sfs conversion.

As for the highlight, past FreeBasic deleted and scoop a new language Genie in "HOW TO Programming for Puppy".

The addition of the bug fix ( Chinese Kanji character key in Xvesa, suspend, and bootflash ) and Japanese localization.

There is also a difference of the kernel version. Please test another one when trouble is found in the latest kernel.

Operation with mounting RAM256MB or less:

This ISO file is 118MB, smaller than alpha, but still large (For Japanese localization like the dictionary etc.). Though Puppy run when trying by mounting RAM256MB, but when looking Youtube etc, Seamonkey drops.
Please shutdown once and make the personal storage file when starting with live CD at the time of mounting RAM256MB or less. I think that operation will be more stability when you use over 128MB personal storage file.

Shift from alpha version

Shifting from 4.30JPalpha, left pupsave as it is, and just replace pup-430JPalpha.sfs with pup-430JPbeta.sfs. If you have problem, please boot with "pfix=ram" and confirm. When there is a description fixed to alpha with menu.lst, replace

find --set-root --ignore-floppies /pup430/pup-430JPalpha.sfs

find --set-root --ignore-floppies /pup430/initrd.gz

1. Update of HELP

As for the highlight, past FreeBasic deleted and scoop a new language Genie in "HOW TO Programming for Puppy".

2. Update of Applications

For zpxxx.sfs of universal installer
Grub4Dos v1.1 - When installing Puppy in USB thumb drive etc., it is possible to make to the menu only in the USB memory.
acpid -4 - There was strange operation of shutting down when beginning this time because it suspended to shutdown so far and to close the lid there. The power supply cuts automatically sooner or later if the lid is closed and left after the shutdown by this correction.
winfont-3.3 - Fixed though the font of Win 9x/Me was not able to be used as the one with the case where the virtual memory doesn't become effective.
e3,MP - Both for Japanese (Depend on Shintani information).

3. Additional application programs

Added /usr/bin/xev. Deleted Pcdripper. Revives Ycalc into menu. Additionally, it is possible to execute other applis from the command prompt or gexec even in case of not being in the menu.

4. For key code of Xorg/Xvesa

Prepared /root/.Xmodmap.xorg and Xmodmap.xvesa.
In any case, the Kanji(Chinese) character key and the Windows key (menu display) are sure to work.

5. Reduction of excessive images

/usr/share/inkspace/about.svg image(200kB!) etc. Over 10kB images are reduced or has been compressed.

6. The wallpaper is the one by jebaJQ8.

Puppy Linux 4.3 Japanese alpha version is an easy-to-use way in Japanese environment arrangement by the Japanese forum member based on English version Puppy Linux 4.3. Please note that there are differences with the English version besides a lot of Japanese translated applications.

Already-known bug

It is reported that a poor thing of the module following "/lib/modules/2.6.30.5/intelmodem/" by developer Barry. Especially, please delete this directory completely beforehand when you execute alsaconf.
