I play with a PC by a hobby. I installed Puppy Linux to start from USB. The boot loader used XXX (I did not write down a name). It was not able to start in the default. As for the wireless LAN, a setting method was written if I read a homepage in various ways and I obeyed it and set it. It moves normally. The setting of the wireless LAN thinks that a save may not be considered to be it. I use WEP. I used the Wake Pop boot floppy. I was deeply moved by the lightness of the operation. It did not become a practicable speed a little though I tried Knoppix and Dabian, etc. Puppy is very convenient. I made a 256MB swap file in 4.3GB HDD, and full installed puppy to partion of the remainder. I was impressed by puppy's lightness and well-made distribution. It is possible to use it enough to inspect Web though it is a model 9 years ago.
Hibernation can be done with key conbination of Fn+F12 without trouble, and it returns. The amount of the remainder of the chargeable battery can be confirmed with Fn+F2.
Network at home and in the office are connected with wireless LAN, It start simultaneously with DHCP. The printing uses DocuCentre Color f450 that is network printer of Xerox with driver of PS. Both SeaMonkey, Abiword, and Gnumeric are unquestionable for a Japanese printing.
MP3 can be played with Gxine. Gftp and Skype, etc, I also downloaded and uses them.

Puppy has a correspondence power that felt after I had tested that started with most hardware without the stress if there were 128MB or more memory. Thereat, it moves in 64MB memory. I think that use is possible only under a basic operation. This CD-boot-test is skipped by thinking if one starts, naturally the different type PC of the same series will be start. CD start OK. I set up the sound in Wizard easily. NIC, the detection / connection was possible in network Wizard entirely. In addition, I could make a multi-OS boot environment with WindowsNT4.0 with a Universal Installer. ( I think personally that it is convenience Grub installs in FD. I must input 0 or 1 at boot when I install it in MBR, but FD gets off with only Enter. It will be easier if you move the lines from " # Linux bootable partition config begins" to "config end" in menu.lst before "Windows bootable...") Finally, I was still inexperienced, but has been completely possessed charm of Linux. It is a really splendid distribution!

The development origin changes along with selling oneself of the development company, Cyrix, National Semiconductor, AMD...This is a operation report of non-Intel x86 compatible CPU.
Though I use Mac everyday, I want a light machine that can be carried in the travel and I want the environment to use Puppy regularly. I could confirme the operation as a result with all of of the three-kind mother boards because I set up PCs from some junk like PCs.
There was neither the full installation on the Internal Hard Disk (IDE adaptor connection CF card that had chosen), USB-CD with WakePup floppy disk (because it did not support boot though there was USB) or the start from the USB flash memory a problem. Because the start with CF from PCMCIA is supported, making the environment of considerable WakePup on CF then it is also possible booting from the USB memory.
Main use is a text input and the web mail etc. I had a trial of an actually working on SeaMonkey. SeaMonkey operates considerably lightly after starting up though takes about ten seconds to start.
About NIC, because Logitec LAN-TX/PCM did not have the set up information in th Puppy default, so I added the following descriptions to the end of '/etc/pcmcia/config.opts'.

Puppy recognizes other NIC by default. I did an open environment test without password for wireless LAN. It is not possible to use it by the Puppy default because of the controller made of RICOH has the peculiarity though FIVA is sure to support CardBus by hardware. This seems to have to go over the setting for oneself. I could to sound only by selecting sb16 with ALSA.

It is power shortage (It takes a long time only even to install the PET package) in FIVA to make the customized Puppy. I restructured installation CD on the iMac machine and Parallels Desktop, and I move it into FIVA. Puppy starts easily from CD-ROM, and it run fabulous speed indeed though Mac today is natural because it is an Intel machine of the EFI specification that has the BIOS interchangeability function. However, I had a hard time in the setting around the password in building into and the wireless LAN, and the connection has not succeeded yet. Moreover, because the specification of the boot loader is different from PC/AT compatible, it is scary for a moment and doesn't try though the HDD installation is possible when it uses BootCamp (dual boot environment with Windows of pure Apple).
The movement of the track pad is strange though Puppy starts with MacBook(Core2Duo 2GHz). The IRQ collision seems not to be a cause because mouse moves a little. The cause cannot be specified. It is not so at the time that moves normally when the USB mouse ties occasionally. It is mysterious. Because this problem has the thing not caused in other LiveCD Linux (DSL etc.) either, I think that it can deal.

I could start from CD/USB. USBboot has quickened very much in version 3.01(Start at about 50 seconds). I set the firewall referring to an online manual and connected to the Internet. However, I am not trying afterwards because I do not understand well what should I do on the security. Once the Internet connection is disconnect, it is not possible to be reconnected after reboot (My way might be wrong). I test v2.16 for the experimental use of the script. The Japanese terminal icon on desktop became a cogwheel icon when starting up with puppy-3.01 though it read automatically. It newly made the personal strage file on v 3.01, because I am unpleasant when aberrance went out in the place I cannot underdtand. I do not understand the hierarchy such as folders of Linux at all.

I install full and use puppy-2.16.1. It is light. Universal installer did not recognize the partition, so I could not full install 3.01. I think hard peculiar problem because it functions in other PC. Dingo was also similar. I'm thinking whether I will use Dingo because I take a fancy to the desktop icons of Dingo. When WEP works, wireless is NG.

I looked for the OS to be usable with the PC which was idle in the corner of the room and came across "Puppy Linux". I full-installed Puppy in an HDD. I am satisfied with a light pleasant feeling of the few movement in Windows and other DISTROS. But my Internet environment is Air-H" now. I try setting of AH-N401C, but am not usable. (I perform this note with another PC). I am perfect except it. I'll try the setting of Air-H" a little more. I may still ask about no use again. Thank you then.

Both CD starts and the installations succeed. 3.01 Japanese version. The CD start succeeded applying boot option ide1=0x190 from PCMCIA connected genuine CD-ROM drive. Though almost functions were able to be used without trouble but using Pmount, it freezes. There seem to be some problems when it is HDD partition of model standard composition. Moreover, genuine CD-ROM drive seemed not to be recognized normally. It tried to format all HDD. Mounting with MUT and Full installation into HDD from DVD ROM drive of USB connection. After it starts from HDD, Pmount is normally operating, too. However, behavior is overall unrefined. It takes ten seconds until Seamonkey starts up. Is not the clock control of Crusoe made well? The cause is being pursued.

Started by Floppy Disk, reading USBFLASH and IDEHD files then Puppy worked. I used WakePup2 (from head family forum) after installing Puppy in USBFLASH with other PC, because my PC not have a CD-ROM drive, and Puppy started. Because I was not able to make WakePup2 from FDD of the USB connection, I looked for it from the head family. I copied the contents of USBFLASH in IDEHDD next. It starts from FD and read a file of IDEHD and start Puppy. I took this method because (cannot copying it) of I was not able to install from USBFLASH in an HDD with a universal-installer. Sound, trackpoints do not have any problem. When it is 800x600x16 by the video relations, a screen is black. A screen did not appear in Xvesa either. The cable broadcasting LAN card (Corega FE2CBTXD) is not recognized.

Because there was not a genuine CD-ROM drive, I installed Puppy in my PC with a USB CD-ROM after booting from USB-FD. Puppy's version is 3.01 Japanese edition. With the installation keyboard choice screen on the way, a built-in keyboard and a mouse did not react and I used an external USB keyboard/mouse. (I can use them after the installation without a problem.)
The communications card uses W05K of the au (/dev/ttyS1). Because the price gets off with high speed than the WILLCOM cheaply, I am recommended. I do not hear the sound. The built-in memory stick slot was OK.

I am a Puppy Linux beginner. Graphic card and LAN card are original with my PC. I usually use WinXP. Puppy Linux was able to set even me of the beginner without any trouble. Start from CD and I store personal storage file (pup_save.2fs) and use it for an external HDD. It operates lightly and is very comfortable. The Internet, KANJI input, the setting of printer (EPSON PM-G820) were completed, too. The ROMAJI input was possible when I used vesa for an X server, but KANA input was not possible.

I installed Puppy in 512MB USB memory stick. An unallocated portion of RAM is left considerably. I want to examine structure of Puppy from now on. Also I played ripped DVDs. Jerky plays sometimes occur. Because even Ubuntu is similar, it may be a Linux system common phenomenon?
Graphic card "Intel GM965" has a screen trouble when return to console at shutdown if using Xorg. I tested the movement of the graphic card using Puppy4.00alpha7 from the head family site. Result was OK. It was recognized by running Wizard after copy the driver to a Japanese edition (3.01). I feel agility of the movement and the size of the font returned to an original state. Concretely speaking, copy "intel_drv.so" to /usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/modules/drivers at the same position of the Japanese edition (3.01). Please try the one using Intel series chips...

I took over this PC to an acquaintance last year, it is hard to run Windows with this machine. It was fateful encounter (?) I came across Puppy301 this year. As a result of trial and error, I success Full_Install Puppy 217R into my PC. Web-browsing and checking mail do not feel stress so much.
I also frugal installed Puppy301 in my scratchbuild desktop PC (Athron X2 2500 et al.), and I enjoy(suffer) Puppy every day. I seem to be able to tell "good-bye" at last in the days of the yes-man of Gates-kun.

There is no issue of all versions about CD-boot. HDD connected to ICH6-IDE is OK, but HDD connected on board ITE8211F-IDE is not OK, unrecognized.
HotPup does not work on 3.01-JP and 3.97(How frustrating!...).

I reported Puppy2.16 before, now Puppy revised and I report by a new publication again.
(1) CD boot
Puppy starts normally, and operations are possible. However, settings are not reflected after reboot by USB memory and HDD even if I save settings. In addition, I use above USB type NIC (driver is Pegasus). However, when I load a driver and shutdown Puppy, I have an infinity loop awaiting the unload of the Pegasus driver by shutdown process and cannot shut it down. I am in condition to off power forcibly without taking CTRL+ALT+DEL and magic key. There is the end run of this problem at least. Command 'rmmod pegasus' from console before shutdown (I confirmed), or it is better to burn another CD which added a former command to shutdown scripts (unconfirmed).
However, there is operation restricted too. Puppy rewrites settings to the outside device by shutdown process. After 'rmmod', the USB-NIC's setting seems to be taken as unnecessary information and the LAN setting of the USB-NIC is not stored. In other words I must perform LAN setting of the USB-NIC after puppy start every time.
(2) HDD installation
Installation succeeded at least. Because the driver of above USB-NIC was not copied to HDD, I was not able to load it.

After confirme roading state of the Pegasus module, I make an unload script. Put it to /etc/init.d/. A pertinence module is unloaded at shutdown automatically and settings to the outside device wrote normally.

This PC is my first AMD machine that I purchased recently...this is a minor PC again. I do not know AMD at all. What chipsets it has...Because I have possessed only Intel PC so far. Then below is my report.
It freezed after a message "puppyserialdetect 1 2 ... Done" from CD boot. After freeze, I did power OFF once and rebooted PC again, but PC came to freeze in running of BIOS sequence (just before booting a device precisely). Before the boot loader of OS is in condition not to start, freezes by a BIOS sequence even I do power ON/OFF how many times afterward again.
I thought that a mother board was broken, but a PC came to start safely when I desorbed a DC adapter (this PC is a DC adapter power supply) just to make sure. I repeated sometime ' Puppy start > BIOS freezed > DC adapter desorption ', and that there was plasticity was completely confirmed.
I do not understand the cause at all, but for some reason Puppy may affect BIOS setup or CMOS value. PC seems to be really broken sometime when I repeat this sometimes and unfortunately cannot run Puppy with this PC. Does someone experienced a similar phenomenon?
My PC/HITACHI FLORA-270HX/ also sometimes stop at "puppyserialdetect 1 2... Done". This seems to do an infinity loop than ' freeze ' because I shift to shut down with [CTRL + ALT + DEL]. Behavior is different from this PC.

I installed Puppy in HDD and multi boot with XPsp1.The cable broadcasting LAN connection was possible without a problem, but the wireless LAN connection was not able to set WEP.
There is the driver, but it is displayed "this driver does not support WEP"(use BUFFALO WLI-USB-KB11). The access point is recognized. PC sometimes freeze in video playback using Media player. Because PC is low specifications, it is not surprising. When exiting of the application, I used SW and made blunder that OS does not boot. I will have installed it again. I am not yet used.
I have a handmade feeling in Puppy unlike the maker-made OS, and I had a sense of closeness toward Puppy. I used Ubuntu and Mint, but Puppy is light and I appreciate it.

I had a hard time though I matched the resolution (transformation monitor of 1024x480px that was not the normal size). I referred to the method of setting the installation report of this forum to VAIO C1S.
256MB SWAP area is set to HDD. I use the USB network adaptor of Corega (cable) and YAMAHA-11b-Card (wireless). Wireless LAN connection cannot search for ESS-ID, and is a manual consequentially input. I think that I only have to be able to use the combo card with the terminal 11g&USB2.0 of the Corega Co..
The battery weakens, and I can use it only for about one hour now because this PC was bought at second hand. However, if it is use in the house for a short time, it is all right.
Moreover, there is a jog dial on a main body right side, and this operates to this model like the scroll wheel. It operates, that is, scroll up and down by rotating the dial when the web page browsing. Push and return to the present location of the mouse cursor.
The pointing device of the main body equipment is the same track pointer as Thinkpad. I think only have to come to being able the upper and lower scroll by pushing the center button as three button type. With hardware, I think it is interesting if the built-in motion eye (410,000-pixel CCD camera) can be used. I think that it only has to be able to use it at the web cam level. Like an original motion eye, even if do not direct to operate by the pattern recognition.
I am very satisfied with Puppy in software. Peripherals of the USB connection can be used with PC of the spec about ten years ago. And a tab browser that can display the latest web page in the network connection without trouble is prepared. Also the word processor and the spreadsheet. Tere is no problem for replay of MP3 in the media player (I am surprised for hearing normally downloaded Pod Cast). I thought that Puppy was very effective as recycling old model PC.

I connected USB CD-ROM, used WakePup2 from external FD, and started Puppy. However, it took a long time to probe Xorg and it started with VGA occasionally. The installation into internal HDD was able to be installed normally by mounting CD-ROM with Universal Installer. After changing to Xvesa, I use Puppy comfortably. WLAN card is recognized by only connecting without trouble. Puppy is more comfortable than Windows.

This is Windows-Me notebook PC that gets it. Because Wind-Me is too unstable, I expanded the memory and recovered and customized it. However, PC often freezed as usual by extent to which the start improved a little. Still, the problem of the resource. I gave up using it because it cannot stop and standby. Though I tried KNOPPIX, it did not become useful, because operation was too slow. My main desktop PC has installed Vine Linux. I think this will not be good because of the memory either, and don't try. When I use Puppy this time, it run surprisingly lightly by the CD start. I made it to the dual boot with Puppy and Win-Me by trying to cut the partition of HDD at once and installing in the hard disk.
Because Puppy run too pleasantly, I cannot think PC as which this is the same. Then, I think that I will not use Me in the future as long as there is not great.
I examined with web, and recognition & operated easily though cable & wireless LAN card was not recognized by the automatic operation. The thing that I want to manage to do now is...It is how to control of the control and i scroll (There is a scroll key between buttons under the touch pad) of the touch pad. Especially, because i scroll works contrary to Win-Me's operating, it embarrasses me. I could not find though I looked for the setting related to the mouse if the direction is not set somewhere. Does nobody know? A little anxious, the backlight on the display disappears automatically when time passes. Where does it control? The setting is not found though it enters the state of the standby if the power supply button is pushed. Setting of BIOS?
At present, for the time being, it seems to do the stability operation very much. I think that I will see the leave in the future, and embezzle Puppy.

I installed Puppy in an old PC without CD-ROM. After a hard time, I can use it. Xorg was recognized by the automatic operation. Though I installed Windows2000 in this PC, but it was too slow and did not become something useful. Puppy run in the sense in Win95 at almost the same speed. It is attractive that most web sites and the flashes move.

Dynabook that friend obtained as bulky garbage item. I added the memory. However, any Xorg was able to be used for the previous version. I thought that I gave up and parted with. I thought I have nothing to lose, and Puppy started easily with xXorg when I tried 400ﾀ. I use Puppy while learning the usage of the file and software. This is my operation temporarily report though I cannot put out a wonderful comment.
Cable LAN connected easily, and I use it for the Internet. Unfortunately, not starting even if the animation software other than default install it is regrettable. Will it be such heavy software?

(1) Text files that I wrote with a NotePad of WindowsXP is garbled and is not readable.
(2) I tested Live-CD which we used with another PC. I try to SAVE in CD-R and for shutdown, CD-R cannot record by lack of memory. A message of "lack of memory" and "cannot unmount HD" though HD is unmounted.

When I start in Live-CD-R which I SAVEed of setting with another PC, Probably because resolution does not do matching, disktop screen changed itself very much. A mountain and the lake of the wallpaper were barely be a visuality darkly and impossible of operation. I pushed the power switch and stopped.
When useing several machines in one piece of Live-CD-R, It seems to be necessary for SAVE to set to the smallest resolution machine. When SAVE, I think that the choice that does not do SAVE of resolution should be possible. I can change the other setting after start.
Though size is small, Puppy has enough functions to the normal use. It is attractive with one piece of CD-R above all. I burn Puppy in 8 cm mini-CD-R, and the use that it combines USB for data seems to be convenient. It can reinforce the backup system, too.

It is extremely comfortable. There is no problem in SAVE to CD-R too. As for the problem, a Japanese letter of txt files which I wrote with NotePad of WindowsXP be garbled.

Puppy3.0 Japanese edition does not work with Xvesa, Xorg either. I could installed Puppy4.0Bata2(English version) getting the advice of forum members. Because specifications are old, I do not go to niceness, but am usable commonly. There is not use by Windows, and PC which how I will do I thought about, I am glad to be able to revive. My PC has also built-in CD-ROM, I was able to easily install Puppy. It run fast lightly and is smart.(^_^)

Puppy can be used at once after install. Puppy-4.00 lightened more than the previous version and became comfortable.
